The truth about peeling

Posted on

In my experience, the term ‘Chemical Peel’ has the effect of sending people screaming & running as if I have suggested they would benefit from scrubbing their face with a brillo pad daily.

This treatment is one of my personal favourites and I would love you to hear me out on this one!

Chemical peeling is not a new concept. Remember the legend of Cleopatra keeping her skin silky smooth by bathing in milk? The reason for this was that milk contains lactic acid which is a component of many modern day chemical peels.

Chemical Peeling can sometimes be referred to as skin resurfacing, skin peeling, solution-based treatment or simply peeling. None of these terms sound very a-peeling! However, do try not to let the name put you off.

The process of Chemical peeling actually only involves applying a solution to the skin – depending on the strength of the solution this can feel anything from mildly tingly to prickly and warm, but this sensation subsides very quickly lasting a minute or two.

In my view, almost everyone can benefit from these type of treatments as they will simply provide your skin with a brightening & gentle exfoliating effect. Try to think of a peel as a ‘results driven’ facial, because that is really what a mild peel is.

Peels can be adapted to treat more mature or younger skin, to treat ageing, acne, rosacea, scarring or pigmentation.

Peels can be tailored made to meet your requirement and your ability to tolerate downtime. In other words, if you don’t want to experience any downtime, we can work with that.

To put it simply a peel is a way of exfoliating your skin without using the ‘mechanical’ action of the grainy products you normally associate with exfoliating.

In my opinion if you are looking for a regular facial with results then choosing this type of treatment will help to maintain the luminosity of your skin. If you would like more information or to book an appointment please get in touch in the usual way.
