Meet Nurse Josie!

Posted on

Last month we finally welcomed Nurse Josie to the LPA team. Josie has a wealth of experience with injectables and medical skincare. She has already started working her magic on our clients who are super happy with their results.

Josie and Elizabeth have been trained in the same techniques and share the view that aesthetic treatments should leave you looking refreshed not ‘done’.

Time to meet Nurse Josie….

My name's Josie. I'm 33. I live in East London with my husband. We've got two gorgeous pugs, I absolutely adore them, they're my world. I've been a nurse for just over 12 years. I left school at 16, when I was a cadet nurse for a couple of years before doing my nurse training. So I've worked in healthcare forever, which has been nice. And then I really weaved my way through and found my specialist niche in aesthetics, which is my passion, six years ago.

I love being autonomous. I think it's really nice to be an autonomous practitioner and make your own decisions. A lot of healthcare is based in big teams and you're a really small cog in a huge machine. I think what's really nice about aesthetics is that you get to spend a lot of time with your patient, you get to give them one to one. You're not rushed. You're not short on resources. So I think, the little things that we can do can make such a huge difference to people, and even if they're small and subtle, I've had patients shed a tear, because helping them to make small changes to the way they look and feel about themselves really just means a lot.

I have been having Botox for quite a few years. I will have it, in my forehead, frown, around by my eyes, my chin, and I also like it in my jaw muscle because it helps to taper the face. I do grind my teeth, so it's really good for me there. Also I have Profhilo, in fact I love Profhilo it gives me really nice, really glowy,  fresh, healthy looking skin. Then also for me, it's all about using medical grade skincare for that prevention element and just looking after my skin in the most effective way possible.

My approach to aesthetic treatments for my clients is about the subtle things. I love it when somebody that my client just bumps into in the supermarket and they haven't seen for ages comments "Gosh, you look really well!" I've heard quite a few clients say to me, particularly with lockdown when I have managed to get them to focus on their skincare, that they feel really comfortable without so much makeup on. It’s so rewarding to hear that I have helped someone to feel happier in Zoom meetings. If I can get someone to the point where they don't feel like they have to put lots of foundation and they can just apply a tinted SPF or CC cream and feel good about the way their skin looks, then I am very happy!

For me personally I could see that I was getting quite lined quite early on. So I just wanted to look fresh and healthy, and I didn't want to look overly done as such, it just wasn't really for me. And I guess that's carried through into my career and how I now treat patients. I seem to attract patients that like that kind of natural healthy look.

My ‘take home’ advice for all of my clients is that you are better off to start with your base and look after your base, and that, for me, is your skin. So to use good quality medical grade skincare as a first port of call is for everybody really. If you are using injectables this will ensure you get the best from those treatments and if you are not, you are doing the very best for your skin by using prescription strength preparations. Moving on from skincare, you can have really natural, lovely results with treatments like Botox, Profhilo, and skin fillers which you can alternate during the year, just to keep you at a nice maintenance, to help prevent the signs of aging from developing, that way you're not trying to backtrack, sorting out something that's already happened. But definitely invest in your canvas because you've only got one, and it's your biggest organ, so you need to look after it.’

Josie is now available for consultations and treatments. Book online or get in touch and we can book you in.
